Father and Son Camp Out

I was stuck working last Friday night, the night of the church Father and Sons camp out. I felt bad for Matix because he was really excited to go camping but nobody was feeling flexible enough to cover my Friday night shift. Carline, the one with the sensible mind, pointed out that I could pack up the Xterra, head out into the mountains to camp and be back in time to make it to church. Yep... Slowly but surely the light turned on in my head.

Now, if you give a man (or me) the task of making a simple decision and, for example sake, lets say the decision is where to do an overnight camping trip with his son, a man must always come to the most complicated solution. I pulled out my maps and double checked on Google Earth if some dirt roads took me to where I was thinking of going. Totally wasted about two hours of sleeping time Saturday morning. I think this is just a law of nature when it comes to men; over do it and make it complicated. Actually, it is the lost twelfth commandment.

Wherefore, if a man were presented with a simple question, it is commanded that he shall come to the most complicated solution.
All jokes aside, I've always wanted to return to upper American Fork canyon. I used to go backcountry snowboarding and snowshoeing in the canyon before Matix was born. If I couldn't make it to the ski resorts after work, I would head up the canyon to have a little fun closer to home; day or night. I've only visited the upper portion of the canyon once and it was during a blizzard so we were limited in safe routes and visibility.

We had a lot of fun together that night but Matix and Soleil pooped out before the sun went down. I'm glad I came prepared with something to read and my Zune fully charged because I woke up around 2 AM and didn't fall back asleep until 5 AM. I'm used to it.

So, I have a few decent pictures of the trip to post. It is hard to get pictures of Matix when he is happy since he doesn't slow down enough for a decent picture. Most of them are when he started to wind down for the evening. I'll have a short video from the trip in the next post. (Forgot to download the footage to the laptop.) Oh, and dad, if you're interested in where we went- Latitude 40°31'40.20"N Longitude 111°36'13.05"W

Driving through a gap.
Matix stole Soleil's scarf for himself.
A little bothered he had to hold still for a picture.
Leaning into me. Talking about Batman, Indiana Jones, you know, important stuff.
Ready for bed.
